It's no secret that the Maldives is one of the most sought-after diving destinations in the world and while there is most certainly plenty to do and see underwater, there's also a whole lot going on back on dry land.
For those wanting to explore the depths of the ocean, LUX* offers access to some of the nation's most beautiful dive sites, where scuba enthusiasts can see an abundance of parrot fish, butterfly fish, sting rays, manta rays, tuna and barracuda, not to mention impressive yet gentle whale sharks. You might even encounter an elusive hawksbill, dolphin or green turtle.
Dive sites include Maamagili, suitable for beginners and those who have never dived before, Aa Thila for the more experienced, and Thinfushi Beru Tila for advanced divers. Our dive centre offers 37 incredible dive sites, two wreck sites and night diving, all within a short boat ride offshore.
Two diving sessions are hosted daily, with at least one trained monitor for every four divers. The dive centre also has a Euro Divers five-star PADI certification for complete peace of mind. Courses include Discover Scuba Diving, Scuba Diver (leading to PADI Scuba Diver certification), and an Open Water Diver Course. The latter lasts five to six days and leads to an internationally-recognised PADI scuba diving certificate and a card that entitles you to rent equipment and dive anywhere in the world to a depth of 18m during the day. NITROX diving courses are also available.
For those who'd like to enjoy a more casual swim, LUX* Maldives has two spacious swimming pools located on the sunset side of the island.

Take a break from the ocean with a game of beach table tennis, volleyball and tennis on floodlit courts. Visit LUX* Me fitness to enjoy a tailor-made training session complete with beach yoga, cycle around the lush island setting or challenge someone to a game of billiards and table soccer at our indoor games centre.

Family holiday with 3 children (Emma 18, Abigail 15, Lucy 9).
I have been to the Maldives before, so I already knew that just to be in that area is magical in itself. It is stunningly beautiful, and the view from the seaplane of tiny islands dotted around a myriad of beautiful blue, turqouise and green colours is just the start of a journey into paradise.
What is different about Lux is that an atmosphere of understated informal luxury is created. Everything is five star deluxe, including fine dining options with exquisite tableware, and yet the children felt totally at ease, and there was no stiff atmosphere that can sometimes be felt in high class hotels.
The staff were impeccable. Our Island host (Shirmeen) looked after us like we were royalty, and made a special effort to make sure the children were happy (Lucy loves you !). Bryan went out of his way at East to make sure we were always looked after, including a couple of kind touches (like putting special items for our children on his menu).
Shakira was a delight to be with.
Allegria restaurant (a la carte) was fabulous. Alexandre was charming and a consummate professional (Abigail loves you !). Andrea and Hassan made our visits there very special, as did Shifau and Ajith. Head Chef Subbunhi went above and beyond the call of duty to provide a very special evening for us that was one of the highlights of our holiday. Thank you to you and your team Subbunhi.
Aasfaru was one of the youngest members of staff we met, but the fabulous service he provided at Senses made sure the children wanted to keep coming back. He laid a very special table for our last night (in the shallows of the infinity pool !) and gave us a lovely send off. He will go far.
Adam and the water sports team were great and made a real impact on our girls. They had great fun on kayaks, pedaloes and being whizzed out to sea on assorted inflatables and cast off at great speed.
Lovely extra touches included 'messages in a bottle' around the island containing all sorts of delights (We found 2), a free of charge telephone box, freshly roasted and ground coffee, and an Ice Cream man wandering around the island.
The Island Director went out of his way to find us and make sure were totally content. Dominik, you can be very proud of your outstanding team - they are truly amazing and are providing exactly what you have set out to achieve.
We were all inclusive in a family water villa. Villa was great with plenty of space and a lovely deck. All inclusive option was all encompassing and absolutely ideal for us. Menu was extensive. Drinks were branded rather than local (we like Bombay Sapphire, so this helped), and the wine list was wide and varied (as was the cocktail list !).
Our youngest daughter is diabetic, and when we arrived ,the doctor was waiting at the jetty to introduce himself and offer his support if ever required - typical of the level of service here.
To have that level of pampering in a stunningly beautiful place is an almost surreal experience and one that I found slightly spiritual.
Leaving was very emotional because it was quite simply heaven on earth.
Thank you for making us feel that way,
Michael, Fiona, Emma, Abigail and Lucy xxxxx

After reading...We had a fantastic family holiday at Lux* staying for the last 2 weeks of August with 2 children (ages 12 & 9) in 2 interconnecting beach pavilions on the sunrise side of the island. After reading the reviews on trip advisor we had requested sunset side but this wasn't available on check-in, but the sunrise side was just as good as the sunset and actually better for the children as the sea was like a pond and even though the beach wasn't as wide on that side, it was perfect. We did upgrade to a family water villa for our last 2 nights, and even though this was nice we found the water villa we were in was looking a little tired, especially the bathrooms. We preferred the beach pavilions; the location, the style and we really liked the 'part' outside bathroom.Read full review
The great service from Lux* started as soon as we were through customs at Male - met and taken to check-in for the seaplane and then transferred to the Lux* lounge. We only had to wait about 1hr 30 minutes for the seaplane which was an amazing experience, not to be missed!
The staff at the resort are fantastic, very friendly and very helpful. Khan and the guys at the Veli pool bar were amazing and went out of their way to look after us. The children loved the Pizza bar on the beach and think the pizzas are the best ever! We ate in most of the restaurants and the food was always very good. The buffet in the Island kitchen never disappointed and they had the best crepes and pancakes for breakfast!
We did choose to go all-inclusive and for us this was the best option. The a la carte restaurants always had a good 'all inclusive' choice and I've never seen such an extensive menu for drinks on an all inclusive! The only thing we were surprised that wasn't included was milkshakes! Also the mini bar in the room wasn't included but I understand this is changing from January next year.
The watersports staff were great, very knowledgeable and helpful. We enjoyed the daily housereef snorkelling trip and also went on the Whale shark safari but unfortunately didn't manage to see any! There is a good variety of water activities on offer, some are free (kayaks, peddle boats) and some at a charge. My daughter had wakeboarding lessons with Ismail and loved it!
We used the gym regularly, which for a small gym was very well equipped. The spa was lovely and they have treatments for children as well as adults and we all had a massage which was very relaxing.
My youngest went to the kids club a few times and the staff there were great. They always seemed to enjoy being with the children, great interaction and some good activities. They were happy for the kids to pop in and out if they didn't want to stay the whole day.
All in all we had an amazing holiday, none of us wanted to leave and we would love to go back. Don't hesitate in choosing Lux* for your holiday, you won't regret it!

.. a warm welcome and a short buggy ride to deliver us to the door of our spaciously and enchantingly decorated Beach Villa with a vista of the lapping shores of the Indian prompted a 'WOW' from the four of us .. The outside loo and shower/bath area an unusual touch of luxury!
We booked a 'Half Board' package as we are not big eaters or drinkers and in our experience an All Inclusive Package is temptation to over indulge but were slightly worried about the additional cost of the drinks especially after reading the other reviews .. okay so not supermarket prices but actually reasonable considering we are in the middle of the Indian ocean and all the food and drinks have to be transported in by Dhoni or plane .. What price an ice cold glass of Chardonnay in paradise!!?? To me ... not over the odds!!
All the staff have air of 'you are the guest' and their priority is to ensure you stay is the best it can be .. we waved down a buggy to take us on a tour of the island .. only when we stepped down were we told that actually our 'driver' was on the way to a meeting .. the response at our concern was ... we are the guests and our experience is the most important consideration..
There are many excursions we could take but equally the inclusive snorkeling and the al fresco cinema and disco could keep you busy without spending a dime!!
... more to follow .. off for a wallow and splash in the crystal clear waters if the Indian Ocean ....

The team members made us feel at home. Specially our room boy Ablo showed his artistic talent making figures and hearts out of towels, bed sheets and foam! We also was treated nicely by the restaurant staff, especially Shakira from the East Restaurant.
We rented bikes during our stay which was absolutely necessary because from one of the last water villas it was very far to most of the places.
The hotel was only at half capacity and the restaurant close to the water villas closed, so we had to go all the way to the main restaurant (but we had our bikes).
There were only 2 things that were not perfect during our vacation:
* one of the reasons why we selected this hotel was that they offer Yoga classes. Nevertheless the Yoga teacher was gone after 2 days and there were no more classes, and no announcement was made about it.
* the hotel has free w-lan which is good. But the connection is very slow. If you have to download stuff or use programs that require more bandwidth you will have problems. The IT manager was helpful, but at the end the connection is not good. If you have to work during your holiday you should consider that.
The food in all the restaurants was excellent, we liked the Italian restaurant Allegria the best.
There are many little details like the phone box or the juice bar that make your stay special.
Overall it was a very relaxing and nice holiday and we had a great time!

We stayed in a beach villa which was roomy and beautifully decorated with an outdoors bathroom (our daughter was very excited at having not 1 but 3 showers to choose from each day!). The facilities met all of our needs perfectly and the food options were varied and all very tasty. Something here to suit all palettes including those of small children.
Special mention must go to the staff at the kids club Aisha, Hafza and Tima who were amazing! Our daughter who was one of the youngest there and sometimes a little shy, would actually ask to go to kids club, which in turn allowed us to go on a few afternoon dives- great all round! The kids club staff really seem to love children and the level of care and attention was exceptional.
Otherwise some lovely touches including a pop up cinema, messages in bottles and a roving ice cream man. Would love to go back and indeed hope to do so in the next couple of years...particularly despite several attempts we must have been the only visitors not to see a whale shark!
