The Thrive Leadership Awards recognizes Hyatt hotels for their outstanding commitment to thriving communities. A total of six awards are distributed each year to those properties that demonstrate excellence in environmental sustainability, community engagement or “Doing it All” (excellence in both environment and community). With compelling nominations from 52 full service, managed hotels and field offices, the winners were selected by a cross functional committee comprised of representatives from Hyatt leadership and operational teams. Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa has received the most prestigious “Doing It All” award for the Hyatt Thrive Leadership Awards which took place during the global Hyatt General Manager’s meeting in Orlando, Florida, last week. From the design concept to daily operations, caring for the environment and community is engrained in Hadahaa’s culture. As the first property in the Maldives to meet the EarthCheck Design & Planning Standards, our conservation efforts are led by a Resident Marine Biologist and active Green Team. With limited waste and recycling capabilities on the island, the resort takes extra care with sorting its waste. Glass is crushed and mixed in with cement for construction use, metals are donated to be used as scrap and plastic is sent to a recycling facility off the island. The resort actively supports local businesses, conducts free environmental awareness classes and provides Scuba Safety workshops for local fisherman. In addition, Hadahaa has made a concentrated effort to focus on career training for local students – with tourism being the main industry in the Maldives. Partnering with schools on neighboring islands, the Thrive team has invited a selection of students to participate in a series of career workshops and will extend 3 month internships to several more later this year.
