Conrad Maldives introduces whaleshark voluntourism

Voluntourism takes a special shape at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island where guests are invited to exchange their luxury villas and spa treatments for a stay in staff accommodation on a local island to help whale shark research.

Volunteers can spend up to four weeks in the Maldives conducting whale shark research and fostering community-focused conservation initiatives throughout the country. They will also collect and analyse data and share their own much-needed skills to protect and save these sharks.

The LUX* Training Academy, Maldives launched “STAGING LUX* SHINING – The LUX* Leadership Program”. The program is aimed at developing key Team Members within the company, and preparing them for higher responsibilities through effective coaching, guidance and introduction to the various practical concepts that will help them to achieve their goal of becoming future leaders. This is LUX* Maldives first batch of Leadership Training and the resort’s management look forward to bringing the program to more Team Members within and outside of LUX* Resorts in the near future. This first batch has 47 Team Members and they comprise of two groups. One group will go through a ‘Supervisors Development Program’ and the second group will go through a ‘Managers Development Program’.

Turkish Airlines begins service to the Maldives

Turkish Airlines has launched direct flights from Turkey to the Maldives. First Turkish Airlines flight to Maldives TK730 arrived on Sunday morning. Aircraft was welcomed with traditional water cannon salute by fire tenders and arriving passengers were greeted with traditional Bodu Beru music and flower bouquets.

These included an event to raise money for Villingili orphanage, a coordinated dive by 40 divers to celebrate 40 years of house reef diving, a lunch for long service team members, a Maldives Mothers Cooking class, a photo competition for guests, and the launch of Kurumba’s 40th anniversary coffee table book called The Kurumba Story.
