Malé – The Republic of the Maldives is set to undergo a comprehensive destination branding evolution to enhance the Indian Ocean island nation’s global image and broaden its appeal to wider markets.
The government has introduced stringent new regulations on the conduct of symbolic marriage ceremonies in the Maldives. The new regulations, drawn up by the Ministry of Tourism, have been approved by President Nasheed and were published in the government gazette on Thursday.
The Maldivian government has apologised to a couple who were verbally abused by resort staff during a renewal of vows ceremony at Vilu Reef resort in the Maldives.
President Mohamed Nasheed has said the government will introduce strict guidelines on conducting wedding ceremonies for tourists in the Maldives. All tourist hotels without exception will be required to follow the new guidelines which will be issued shortly, the President said in his weekly radio address on Friday morning.
